Australia Post outage planned for Oct 17 2014

Last Updated: Oct 10, 2014 11:20AM PDT
We have received an notice from Australia Post that the Australia API will be unavailable from 10pm AEDT on Friday 17 October until midnight AEDT on Saturday 18 October 2014 for 26 hours.

What does this mean for your store? This means that the Australia Post Calculator application would not be able to return a shipping rate during checkout. The options you have are
1. Put the store in maintenance mode during the outage and enable it again on Sunday.  There is no need to keep reading this document if you choose to go with this option.

2. If the store must be on during the outage period, disable the calculator temporarily and activate the default Shopify shipping rate in Shopify admin. To make things easier for you , you can set up a weight based rule to cover your rough cost for shipping .

A. Determine what type of integration you are using with your store. Go to Apps section in your Shopify admin area and click on the app Australia Post Calculator . On the first page of the app, under Select the shipping carrier to use for calculation dropdown list, note the option chosen (see example screenshot), if it says Australia Post, follow step B1, C1 ,D1, and E1 below. If it says Australia Post with Shopify Real-time carrier shipping, follow step B2, C2, D2 below

Follow the steps below

B1. To disable the Australia Post Calculator app, go edit your theme file cart.liquid (see here on how to edit your theme) and find this line  {% include 'webify-request-shipping-form' %} . Disable the line by replace it with
{%comment%}
 {% include 'webify-request-shipping-form' %}
{%endcomment%}

C1. After this, go into the shipping rate area of your shop admin area in Shopify.
For the country of Australia, remove the default line you put in to make shipping zero all zero (it was to effectively disable the Shopify shipping calculation so that the Australia Post Calculator can take over). Create new shipping rules based on weight (or order value) to cover your shipping cost.
Perform the same steps for other countries you might sell to and set up the rules to cover your shipping cost.

D1. After the outage is over, perform the steps for B1 and C1 in reverse. Remove all shipping rules added in step B1 and create the rule to make all shipping free again. Go to theme editor and edit the file cart.liquid, locate the changes you made earlier.

Replace
{%comment%}
 {% include 'webify-request-shipping-form' %}
{%endcomment%}

with
 {% include 'webify-request-shipping-form' %} .

E1. Test the changes in your store and see if shipping rates return properly.

B2. Go to the shipping rate area in Shopify admin , For the country of Australia, you should see a line that says Webify Custom Shipping Service generates additional shipping rates for this country , click on the Edit link on the line. See screenshot. Uncheck the checkbox Enabled for Australia . This will disable the Australia Post Calculator.  Create new shipping rules based on weight (or order value) to cover your shipping cost.

Perform the same steps for other countries you might sell to and set up the rules to cover your shipping cost. First disable the Australia Post calculator for  that country and then add the shipping rules.

C2. After the outage is over, perform the steps in B2  in reverse. Go to the Shipping section in Shopify Admin. Remove all shipping rules added in step B2 . Renable the Australia Post Calculator for each country that you have disabled.
