What Data Doctor does
Data Doctor (Product Data Health) runs read-only catalog checks, then gives you CSV reports you can use to fix gaps in Shopify Admin or with import tools.
It does not automatically change your catalog unless you start a separate review/apply flow (for example Category Attribute Gaps).
How to open it
- In Shopify Admin, open Apps → Metafield Editor+Data Doctor (or your installed app name).
- In the app navigation, open Data Doctor.
From Data Doctor you can:
- Run a new scan
- Open Scan history
- Open Category Attribute Gaps
- Open AI Category Suggestions (when enabled on your plan)
- Open Weekly report settings
- Browse the Shopify Category Taxonomy explorer
- Manage Coverage profiles (Pro / Unlimited)
Scan types (summary)
| Scan / tool | What it finds | Typical plan |
|---|---|---|
| Metafield coverage (default) | Missing/empty values for product & variant metafield definitions you include; also category + variant checks on the same run | Free allowance on all plans; full toolkit on Pro+ |
| Category attribute completeness | Empty Shopify Category metafields on products that already have a taxonomy category | Pro / Unlimited |
| AI Category Suggestions | Suggested Standard Product Taxonomy categories for products missing (or optionally inadequate) categories | Pro / Unlimited |
| Metaobject reference / custom data coverage | Studio-related reference and coverage checks | Pro / Unlimited (Studio) |
After a scan
- Scans run in the background. You can leave the page and return to Scan history.
- When a scan completes, you usually get an email with a short summary and CSV attachments (when there are findings).
- Open the scan report in the app to download CSVs again.
