What it does
Suggests a Shopify Standard Product Taxonomy category for products that are missing a category (and optionally for products whose current category looks too generic—when that option is enabled).
Suggestions are chosen from Shopify’s official taxonomy. The app does not invent custom category names.
Steps
- Open Data Doctor → AI Category Suggestions (or start the matching scan type).
- Review options such as:
- Whether to only target products without a category, and/or
- Whether to also flag inadequate existing categories (those rows usually default Apply = No until you opt in).
- Run the scan and wait for completion.
- Open the report / preview.
- Search taxonomy by name when correcting a suggestion—you do not need to hand-edit GIDs if the UI provides a picker/search.
- Save corrections, then apply only the rows you approve.
After apply
- Confirm a sample of products in Shopify Admin → product → category.
- Re-run a coverage scan later if you want a fresh missing-category list.
If suggestions are unavailable
The scan may fail or skip suggestions if the taxonomy index is missing on the server or suggestions are disabled for the environment. Retry later or contact support.
